Fit Tip of the Week April 28th

New Year's Resolutions have come and gone...but Memorial Day is only one month away, and then begins the dawn of "Pool Season". Are you ready? Is your body where it needs to be? If not, below are some simple tips that will surely get you through the springtime slump!... but first I want to let you know Better Bodies and Me Salon will be closed Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day!

Has your progress slowed or came to a halt?

Most people carry out a regular exercise program but become frustrated when after a while they stop losing weight. If that happens to you, don't give up! You just hit an exercise plateau.

Your body gets used to your exercise routine

If you haven't been exercising much, when you first start, your body has to burn a lot of energy to meet the new challenges. Burning all that energy makes you lose weight. So far, so good!

But after a while, your body adapts to the new demands. If you walk the same route every day, you will develop leg muscles that are adequate to handle the length of your walk and the elevation changes you encounter. With that new muscle, your body just glides along. Your body doesn't have to burn as much energy as it did before you developed all those nice calf muscles!

You have to change it up

If you've hit an exercise plateau, you need to change your routine. You can do this in one of four ways:

HIRE A TRAINER

Do it more

Do it with more intensity

Do something different

Hire A Trainer!!!

If you don't know what and where to begin. Hire a trainer. Personal trainers can provide you with a structured exercise program that will help you obtain quicker results from your workouts while avoiding injury. With training programs starting at $89.99 you have nothing to lose but inches.

Exercise more

If you have the time, this is an easy way to revitalize your exercise routine. If you currently do thirty minutes of cardio per day, try forty-five minutes instead. If you swim twice a week, go three times instead.

Exercise with more intensity

If you lift weights, increase the wt by 5% per week. If you take a daily stroll, walk more vigorously. If you already walk vigorously, consider jogging. If you jog, jog faster.

Do something different

If you walk every day but don't get any other kind of exercise, you probably have great calf muscles, but a weak upper body. A couple of times a week, instead of taking your usual walk, take a boot camp.
How do you know if you're off the plateau?

You should feel challenged by your new exercise routine. Pain is not good, but you should be able to feel that your muscles have gotten a new workout. Eventually, you will hit a new plateau. When that happens, simply apply one or more of the three methods of change -- do it more, do it with more intensity, or do something different.

Have a great week!!

P.S - Refer a friend to the salon or gym and we'll give you $20 in health and beauty bucks!

Swimsuit season is here….Is your rear end ready?

It’s never too early to start exercising and making your body look amazing for bathing suit season! If you are looking to tone up that behind of yours but you aren’t sure how to do it, these tips will guarantee a firmer bottom within 2 weeks to a month (and the longer you do it, the more toned you will be!).

The Secret
· The secret to toning up is not cutting out carbs, calories or doing cardio like mad. It’s resistance exercise, looking after your nutrition and improving them both together at the same time so that they support and build up one another. It’s really no big secret, but remind yourself every day that you do need to have an adequate caloric intake in order to tone up, no matter how tempted you may be to cut out as many calories as you possibly can. Remember to try and keep your caloric intake to 1500 calories or more if you are working out on that particular day.

Diet
· No crash dieting here. The key to toning your butt up is to cut out those high fat, high sugar and processed foods. A lot of foods that we “think” are healthy are actually not very good for our health. For instance, those whole grain crackers you bought probably are high in fat and loaded in MSG. Not exactly the kind of food you want to eat when you want to lose weight.

· Focus on eating natural and whole foods. This means when you eat, try to eat whole grains, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, and lean meats (such as fish and chicken). Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and stay feeling full, and avoid all salty snacks, sweet treats, and drinks other than water that have hidden calories.

Exercise
Exercising 3 to 4 times a week is ideal as it will give your body the appropriate amount of work and rest needed to repair itself and continually build up muscle. Always start off by warming up your body by jogging or walking for 5 minutes. Once you have warmed up, it’s time to squat. Below are some samples of our signature butt and leg moves. The amount of weight and number of sets you do will be predicated on your current fitness level and goals.
